What Is Freedom?
This is what it means to me.
Freedom, means a lot of different things to everybody. Because I live in the United States of America. There are so many freedoms I take for granted. Probably don’t appreciate it until we lose it.
Every generation has to defend, and preserve our freedoms, so we can enjoy. It's what we pass on to the generations that follow. In America, we have the privilege of changing the direction our nation is going, every election. There are some safeguards placed by our founding fathers. They gave us the things this nation needs to become the greatest nation history has ever recorded.
Because we have a constitution, and a bill of rights. That is our foundation. We can elect our government, change it to our way of thinking. However we have a supreme court that interprets the constitution. This one thing is what is the base of keeping our freedoms. We are a nation of laws, and that gives us our freedoms. As long as we are a law abiding citizen we have our guaranteed freedoms.
In 1941 President Franklin Rosevelt gave to congress in the state of the union address what has become known as the four freedoms speech. They were the freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. In a later post I’ll talk more about these freedoms.
In 1961 President John Kennedy gave a speech in his inaugural address that said. “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”! He knew all too well the price of freedom, and no doubt he inspired many young people to give their lives defending our precious freedoms.
