🇸🇪 Pyttipanna
Initially regarded as a simple dish assembled from available leftovers, this rustic hash nowadays stands as the ultimate comfort food and a favorite meal in many Nordic countries. Pyttipanna is incredibly versatile and usually consists of diced potatoes and different types of meat and vegetables that are pan-fried in butter. Served with a fried egg on top and alongside various pickled salads.
Ready in: 30 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients
1200 Grams Potatoes
3 Onions, chopped
600 Grams cooked meat. Beef, Sausage or Ham or a mix of it all.
3 tbsp. Oil
3 tbsp. Butter
1 small bunch Parsley
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste
4 Eggs
Pickled Beetroots, for serving
Pickled Cucumber, for serving
1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into 1 x 1 centimeter cubes.
2. Put the potato cubes in a bowl and rinse thoroughly to remove the starch. Then drain the potatoes carefully.
3. Chop the meat into 1 x 1 centimeter cubes.
4. Fry the potatoes in the oil and butter on medium high heat until it is soft and have a golden color. Season with salt and pepper.
5. Add the onions to the potatoes and let it soften for a few minutes.
6. Add the meat and fry along with the potatoes and onions for a few minutes. Season with salt and pepper again, if needed.
7. Chop the parsley and sprinkle it on top.
8. Fry the eggs. The classic pyttipanna comes with a sunny side up egg with a runny yolk.
9. Serve the pyttipanna with a fried egg and pickled beetroots and cucumber.
