  • Hello Everyone,

Here is a Swedish Recipe for you all to try.

    ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช Pickled Herring

Pickled herring or "inlagd sill" is a Swedish fish dish that has long been served in Sweden at Midsummer, Christmas, and Easter celebrations. The dish consists of cleaned, skinned, and salted herring that is soaked in a marinade of vinegar, sugar, chopped onions and carrots, allspice, bay leaves, pepper, and crushed peppercorns. Before serving, the fish is cut into thick slices and it is traditionally garnished with minced red onion and sprigs of fresh dill. As always, Swedish snaps (shots of strong alcoholic beverages) are more than welcome to accompany this dish.

Ready in: 10 minutes prep time, at least 1 day pickle time
    Servings: 10

    Ingredients

430 Grams pre-washed Salted Herring for pickling, "Inlรคggningssill" (Clupea Harengus)
    50 ml 12% Spirit Vinegar/White Vinegar
    150 ml Water
    1 dl (80 Grams) Sugar
    ยฝ tsp. White Pepper
    2 tsp. Crushed Allspice
    1 Bay Leaf
    5 Cloves
    1 Red Onion, sliced
    10 cm Leek, sliced
    1 Small Carrot, sliced

    1. Rinse the fillets in water and cut them in 1-2 cm wide strips.

    2. Boil the pickling liquid: Add the vinegar, water, sugar, white pepper, allspice, bay leaves and cloves in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Remove from the heat and cool in the fridge until completely cold.

    3. Add layers of herring, onion, leek and carrot in a large jar.

    4. Pour the pickling liquid over the layered fish and vegetables so everything is completely covered.

    5. Leave the jar in the fridge for at least 1 day before serving.

    6. Serve with boiled fresh potatoes, a boiled egg and some fresh dill or sour cream and onion. Alternatively, add a couple of slices of herring on a piece of crispbread.

Hope you have fun creating this recipe ๐Ÿ˜
    All the best,
    LuckyEthel (Caroline) ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง ๐Ÿ˜โค
