🇮🇹 Tiramisu

Tiramisu is a cool, refreshing Italian dessert, also known as the "Tuscan Trifle". This dessert was initially created in Siena, in the northwestern Italian province of Tuscany. It consists of mascarpone custard layered with whipped cream, and rum and coffee soaked ladyfinger biscuits.

Ingredients

6 Egg Yolks
150 Grams White Sugar
160 ml Milk
300 ml Heavy Cream
1/2 tsp. Vanilla Extract
450 Grams Mascarpone Cheese
60 ml Strong Brewed Coffee, room temperature
2 tbsp. Rum
170 Grams Ladyfinger Cookies
1 tbsp. Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well blended.

2. Whisk in milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture boils. Boil gently for 1 minute, then remove it from the heat and allow to cool slightly.

3. Cover the mixture tightly and chill in refrigerator 1 hour.

4. In a medium bowl, beat cream with vanilla until stiff peaks form. Whisk the mascarpone into the yolk mixture until it is smooth.

5. In a small bowl, combine the coffee and the rum. Split the ladyfingers biscuits in half lengthwise and drizzle them with the coffee mixture.

6. Arrange half of soaked ladyfingers in bottom of a 28 x 18 cm rectangular baking dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the biscuits, then half of the whipped cream over that. Repeat layers.

7. Sprinkle with cocoa powder on the top. Cover and refrigerate for 4 to 6 hours, until it's completely set.
